THE ROAD FROM HOSTELRY TO WORLD CLASS

Today Hotell Borgholm is renowned for Karin Fransson’s gastronomy, a cellar stocked with the finest the wine world
has to offer and interior décor that makes every visit a pleasure on the eye.

Hotell Borgholm’s evolution into its current form has its foundations in a long tradition.
As early as the mid-1800s a hostelry was being run in the older part of the hotel fronting onto Storgatan.
This hostelry became Borgholms Stadshotell and in 1972 Hotell Borgholm when it was taken over by myself and an associate.
For a number of years Hotell Borgholm was the obvious destination for Borgholm’s summer pleasure-seekers.

Just over 30 years ago Karin Fransson came to Öland on holiday and so began the evolution that has made
Hotell Borgholm what it is today – the Great Taste Hotel.

Karin Fransson began developing her own cuisine in the 1980s and has since turned Hotel Borgholm into Öland’s own
temple of gastronomy. Öland’s herbs and creative love of food have been crossed with international influences
to create something completely individual.

Epicures from far beyond the borders of Öland soon discovered Hotell Borgholm and established it as a destination well worth the trip.
Karin Fransson has been recognised by awards such as Ölander of the Year, the White Guide Swedish Gastronomy Award,
the Swedish Gastronomic Academy’s gold medal, Werner of the Year,
Allt om Mat (All about food) Magazine’s Grand Food Prize and many more.
She has become nationally famous for her engaging appearances on both television and radio.
Throughout the years she has also passed on her ideas about food in a number of books.

In addition we have built up a wine cellar to match Karin’s cuisine and attract long distance connoisseurs.
To emphasis our identity as the Great Taste Hotel we have over the years chosen furnishings from designers such as Mario Bellini,
Giandomenico Belotti, Phillipe Starck, Arne Jacobsen and Yngve Ekström

Our evolution is not complete. Every year Hotel Borgholm’s many regular guests delight as Karin Fransson takes gastronomy to new heights,
as surely as the orchids bloom on Öland’s limestone plain.

Our wine list always includes new wines that you won’t find anywhere else.
In our hotel rooms it is always possible to find new thoughtful touches that exude both elegance and functionality.
